That set me to thinking, what if God installed such a device on us that beeped each and every time we committed a sin. The second it was plugged in most of us would start beeping like crazy. Just think about how embarrassing it would be as we beeped our way to work or school. Beeping away as we talked to our friends about our other friends while on a break at work. Or worse yet beeping as we explained to our boss why our work was unfinished or why we arrived late.
Being married would be a whole new world of fun as we talked about our in laws, her cooking or his lack of neatness. How about trying to talk about the family budget while the beeping monitor relentlessly blared out its accusations of failure. The shame and embarrassment would be unbearable.
You see what I mean? It would be the end of the world as we know it. In point of fact it would most likely trigger a meltdown of humanity if we were forced to face our every sin as well as everyone else knowing our weaknesses.
What a blessing that our Heavenly Father has not installed a beeping system in us that can be heard by human ears. He gave us the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to track our life and to speak to us of our sin and failures. His still small voice can be heard only if you are listening and His goal is not to score our life but to set us free to live. When a sin is revealed He calls us to confess and to repent and move on with our life. The alert is an act of love designed to bring grace not shame, forgiveness not punishment and He has already paid the premium in full.
