There are so many beautiful homes in this area making it very difficult to decide. So we have gone through the process of narrowing the possibilities down by answering a list of questions. What can we afford? Is it large enough? Does it have a garage? Are there enough bedrooms and bathrooms? Will there be parking for when we have friends over? Well you get the idea.
As we have exlored several homes we check our list and the possibilities diminish from a couple of hundred homes to twenty then five and now one. You would think that after months of looking and head scratching that the decision to buy the one would be an easy one. You would be wrong.
Buying a home is a big decision. The future impact that this one choice creates is kind of staggering and unlike a pair of ill fitting shoes we can't just take a house back for a refund. Once the papers are signed it's ours for good or for bad.
Just this week we at long last made an offer on a house that was accepted. However, instead of a loud celebration the end result has been a bit more sobering as the what if questions start assaulting our vivid imaginations. Just thinking of all that could go wrong sends a chill down my spine.
All of this stress and concern over a house... one that will last for only a short time in the great scheme of things. How much more should we be concerned by our eternal home? Are we just as focused on the questions of life that really matter?
The truly important stuff of life has to do with our relationship to God. The decisions we make here and now will determine not just our next few years of life but forever after. The thought of making a wrong choice now should be an enormous weight on our minds. Because like the house I am buying when this life is over, it's done and we can not redo our choices then.
If you are making big life choices and want someone to walk along side of you let me know. I will gladly pray with you and be a sounding board for you. Whatever you do, don't attempt to make your decisions without God. He alone knows what is best.
